We’re Kate and Dan, born and bred Southlanders who are passionate about creating memorable experiences for others.
In 2016, we moved to our 3.5-acre property in Lochiel, where we built our family home and the foundations of the businesses we operate today. Together, we have three sons, and family has always been at the heart of everything we do.
Dan continues to operate his logging business, which he established in 2014, while Kate focuses on growing the family businesses and creating memorable experiences for guests and clients throughout Southland.
Sleeping Beauties was launched in 2022 with a dream of creating unique and enchanting celebrations for local families. The business quickly grew as more people discovered the joy of beautifully styled sleepovers, outdoor movies, luxury picnics, and personalised event experiences.
Inspired by our love of hosting and creating memorable experiences, we later launched Forest Hillside Glamping Retreat. Located on our peaceful Lochiel property, the retreat was designed to offer guests a private space where they can relax, reconnect, celebrate, and enjoy the beauty of the Southland countryside.
Today, both businesses share the same purpose — creating meaningful experiences that bring people together and leave lasting memories.

Sleeping Beauties was built around creating magical experiences and unforgettable celebrations.
What began with just two tents has grown into a business offering luxury teepee sleepovers, outdoor movies, picnics, glamping experiences, pamper parties, soft play, and a variety of unique event experiences throughout Southland.
We love helping families create moments that bring people together and turn ordinary occasions into something truly memorable. Every setup is thoughtfully planned with attention to detail, ensuring each celebration feels special and stress-free.
